This is My Story
Randy Flowers - Music Producer, Promoter, and Sound Technician
From as far back as I can remember I was a part of my father's music ministry. I was not part of the singing group, God did not give me the talent of singing, but he did give me so many other gifts. I was great at promoting my father's music and selling his tapes and CD's. I was determined to make Rev James N. Flowers and the Flowers Family Singers stars! This was a challenge, it was hard work, and mainly it was a hustle. Many of my friends would make comments that I did not have a real job. They simply did not know what I did and how it impacted my Fathers Gospel singing career.
I would go with him to the church for the initial rehearsal, before we went to the studio to do a recording. After many rehearsals we would go into the studio to lay down the tracks. This was time- consuming and costly. After the songs were all completed to my father's satisfaction, I would make the preparations for production. This included designing the artwork for the cover, doing the outline for the song list, the credits list, and the recording rights. This was then taken to our production company for pressings and packaging of the CDs. Once this was done it was time for distribution and promotion. I would pack up CDs and take them to records stores, radio stations, street vendors, I would go to any and everybody that could get the word out about my father's music. Everybody Loved his music which led to more work on my part. I had to book his concerts, negotiate the price, and send out confirmations. On the day of the concerts I had to pack up all of the equipment, music board, mic's, speakers, tracks, and all of the products to sell. After each performance, I had to re-pack up all of the equipment and rush to the table to sell his CD's, so that all the stars could mingle with their fans, take pictures and sign autographs. This went on year after year, CD, after CD. Our big break came with the hit song "Ride out Your Storm" It took off like wildfire. I booked the group all up and down the east coast, from churches to banquets, to theatres, I even had his music played at the Stellar Awards.
he was on many gospel radio stations, and he is still being played on the popular radio station WHUR to this day. I had T- shirts made with the logo 'Ride out Your Storm", produced a short film, " Ride Out Your Storm", I even had the name Ride out Your Storm in bold letters on the back of my car. Some people would pull me over in the middle of traffic to ask for the CD.
" Ride Out Your Storm" will go down in history as their hit song and their signature song. Everything I did day and night was all about making my Father and the Flowers Family Singers Famous. This was hard work and I had to hustle like crazy, but I loved it. And yes my friends would still ask me when was I going to get a real job!
